Coronavirus: Rwanda to provide food and electricity for free during lockdown

The government of Rwanda has taken the decision to provide citizens free electricity and food for the entirety of the lockdown period.

Just as other countries battling with the COVID-19 pandemic, Rwanda has had to take radical preventive measures, such as a lockdown.

Knowing such a situation could have an impact on the economy, Rwandan authorities have come out with a plan to share food items at no cost to the citizenry. Africa Facts suggest distribution may have already begun. That won’t be the only action from the government. Electricity will equally be free.

Owing to the fact that the ordinary Rwandan citizen lives by day-to-day revenues, it would be almost impossible for a lot of people to meet their needs and pay bills such as water, electricity, internet, etc during the enforcement of a lockdown. There lies the main motivation of Paul Kagame, the Rwandan president, and his team to support his fellow citizens.

Rwanda currently counts over 100 positive COVID-19 cases.
